It was a devastating scene at the Brussels Airport on March 22, as suicide bombers detonated in the departure area near the American Airlines desk, leaving at least 34 dead. It was a scene of mass chaos at the Brussels Airport, after two explosions rocked the departure area on March 22. While at least 34 were killed and several more injured, hundreds more had no choice but to run for their lives as fear of another attack hung in the air. See video from the horrific scene here.
Smoke can be seen rising from the airport building after the two explosions, which shattered glass and left debris everywhere. Video from the scene shows terrified civilians running away toward safety, and it is an absolutely heartbreaking scene to watch. “It was atrocious,” an eyewitness explained. “There was blood everywhere.”
Just about an hour later, another attack rocked the Maalbeek Metro station just six miles away from the airport, leaving at least 20 more dead. Panic ensued as those unharmed tried to make their way out of the pitch black underground train system, fearing for their lives while hoping to get to safety
The total death and injury count is unknown at this time, but Belgium’s threat level has been increased to a Level 4, with anticipation that another attack could occur later in the day. Obviously, all incoming and outgoing flights, along with train and bus travel, has been suspended as order is restored in the city.

This brutal attack comes just four days after Paris terror attack suspect Salah Abdeslam wasarrested in the Belgium capital, where he’d been hiding out in a safe house for more than four months. An ISIS flag and detonating equipment was found in his residence, but it still cannot be confirmed whether or not the attack in Brussels is related to this capture or the Islamic state.
